Hello from Seattle
What's Going On - Well my husband and I are in Seattle. The last 3 months have been very hard for us. I haven't blogging much. I did try and post pictures of projects. My husband has stomach cancer - diagnoised 1/1/2002. After 9 months of chemo and radiation his scans have been good. Then this past Feb. he started having trouble swallowing but CT scan show nothing, but his tumor marker rose from 7 to 440. After a PET scan - which was delayed because of Mt. Redoubt erruptions - it showed that the cancer was indeed back. But only showed one hot spot - the same spot as before..the junction of the stomach and esphogus. Ken's onocologist in seattle want us to consider stomach surgery. The doctor at Swedish is very good and does this surgery on a regular basis. So it was off to seattle. We we're expecting a month stay. But after the sugeon got in the abdomen and they decided that the cancer has seeded around the stomach and that the surgery would be to hard on Ken and that chemo only would be the only choice. We are disappointed. We know that God is in control. The Dr. was able to put in a stent to help Ken with his swollowing and they also placed a feeding tube for use later down the line to help keep Ken hygrated. Enough about that - now on to knitting. WIP - I've finished "The Cable Knitted Vest" before we left, And have finished the "Slouch Socks". I started Seamless Baby Kimono by Jacki Kelly. I love this pattern and I'm almost finished, Audio Books - I've been listen to some downloaded books on my SANSA- "Lone Star Calder" by Janet Dailey. Yesterday I finished 74th Seaside Avenue by Debbie Mc Comber and "The Art of Mending" by Elizabeh Berg. I've been downloading from the "Lending Library". The selecting is pretty good,

Well we leave for seattle 4/22 to see my husbands onacologist. The waiting is driving me crazy. It's in God's hands. Now we're just trying to continue as usual. It's so nerve racking. If you believe in the power of prayer as we do please pray for my husband. He has re-occurring Stomach/cancer. He's had a clean slate for the last 5 years. Not knowing what the course of treatment is the hardest thing right now. I'm trying to knit but get side-track. Easter is here and a time to celebrate the resurection of our Savior. Always a joyous time and we are moving forward..... Thank you in advance. I'll try and update more later. God Bless - Linda

Happy Thanksgiving
What I'm Doing – We've had this awful cold that's going around… sigh and Thursday is Thankgiving! I have allot to be thankful for especially my family and my BOO BOO. Soon it will be Christmas…did I say sigh. I'm trying to get my gifts purchased and ordered if need be. Next is the Christmas letter I hope my DH will write again this year. He does such a great job. He's the writer in our family. Today he's off to pickup our son who lives 250 miles away. He's car is limping so my DH volunteered to go and get him. The roads are terrible with blowing snow and ice in the pass. He will have some "quality" time and get the scoop from him. We are all going to the cabin on Friday. I can't say that I'm going to miss shopping on "Black Friday". But it has been a "tradition" with my good friend Sally. I will miss FNK (Friday Night Knits@thegrounds) this week… I only got to stop by last week. But I did get some pictures of some beautiful things. WIP – The "Swirl" is done… victory. I decide not to add the braid and I'm wearing it. It matches my felted bag. I've gotten lots of compliments. The Big Baby sweater well …. I keep saying I'll finish but not enough time. It is almost done…. I'm on the sleeve but I don't like how they look either. The "Seamless Baby Kimono" is still on the To Do list. Funny my sister is knitting the same! http://thecompletefabrication.blogspot.com/2007/11/seamless-baby-kimono.html. She is having problems on row 10. What Audiobooks I'm Listen To – In the car – "If I'm Missing or Dead" by Janine Latus About abuse in a family and how it snowballs. "So Much Yarn"
A cute little yarn shop tucked in the "downtown" Seattle restuarant area. Very nice and lots of yummy yarn and very nice people. Unlike my previous experience in "Seattle" and yarn snobs.
By the way
Just a note: I won an "Honorable Mention" ribbon at the Fair! I entered the "felted clogs", not something I would have normal done, as they we're a project that I didnt' pay close attention to because they we're going on my "DH" feet! And I'm almost done with my "car project" ... the baby hat. wooohooo. ![]()
Friday September 12
What been going on – Well we made it back from vacation. Whew was it hot in Modesto. 100 degrees is way too hot for this Alaskan Chick. There for 5 days and then we spent 4 days in Washington state. Oceanshores for 2.5 and Seattle area for 1.5 days. Hey I went to "So Much Yarn". It's a neat yarn shop on 1st Avenue in Seattle. I saw it on Ravelry. One of my "people" had gone there early this spring and it sounded like a place to scope out. I did buy some yarn and a pattern. I'll post pictures. My DH doctor's appointment went very well…so he was all up for the journey "Downtown Seattle". (They do not have good parking). We managed to find a parking spot. $3.00 later for 30 minutes. It was worth it. They we're very very friendly and I got a link to a pattern on Ravelry that they we're knitting called "Cashmere Neck Warmer". One skein, quick gift and I plan on making! Hey how about that Sara Palin! What I'm Doing – Tonight "Friday Night Knit @ the grounds and then "Knitter's of the North" ,our local guild, tomorrow. I've signed up for a "Lace" class next week. The class got filled up while I was gone and a friend who signed up relinquished her spot to me! Thank you Karolyn you're a jewel. Catching up with work this week has been a "bear" WIP – The "Forrest Canopy Shawl" is not coming along as planned. I really need to finish and I will put in on the front burner to finish this weekend I hope!!! My friends husband whom I pray for while knitting it will be in the hospital this weekend for a procedure and it would be great if I could give it to her Sunday….. we'll see.I did finish the "Fingerless Gloves" and I gave the to Bobbies dear friend at Oceanshores. We cried and laughed and we miss Bobbie terribly. I worked on my "2 socks on 2 circulars" and am pass the afterthought heel. What Audiobooks I'm Listen To – I finished "Break No Bones" by Kathy Reich just today. And finish the playaway "The Lincoln Lawyer" by Micheal Connelly. Both we're very good. I'm listening to tge Playaway "Full Speed" buy Janet Evanovich. I just can't get into it. I also have "Full Blast" and "Thanksgiving" by Janet Evanovich… I might return till later time. I really want to start "The Broken Window" by Jeffery Deaver. What's On My I-POD – The "Cast on", Knit Picks Podcast, Letsknit2gether (Video Podcast, and 11 Episodes of "Sticks and Strings" that I'd hope to get caught up while I'm on vacation didn't pan out. I did listen to a few but time got away from me. The "Letsknit2gether" it turning to be a very good find! August 26th
What I'm Doing – Olympics ended and I finished my project. I picked a simple pattern. "Sprial Socks" by Kathy Meggit. The socks will be for "The Knitters of the North's" fall charity project. I entered it in "Ravellympics' and TEAM ALAKA. This was an easy pattern that I picked on purpose. I knew I could finish the toes during closing ceremonies so I just knit both pairs from one skein using 2 sets of DP sz 5 needles. I would work one pattern repeat with #1 sock then the same set on sock #2. I knew I would do more watching than knitting so the total length is only 13 repeat or 12". A nice pair of socks for a women size 6. There's a method to my madness. I will post a picture later. We leave for vacation tomorrow night. We're going to California for a softball tournament then to Seattle for doctor's appointments then to Oceanshores to visit a friend. WIP – The "Forrest Canopy Shawl" is on its last repeat, then the edging. I'm taking that and my 2 socks on 2 circulars with me. I also plan on finishing the "Fingerless Gloves". Well Il have to because when we get to Oceanshores I plan on giving them to Bobbies' walking buddy. What Audiobooks I'm Listen To – I finished "Bones to Ashes" by Kathy Reich. It was so good I'm now listening to "Break No Bones" read by Barbara Rosenblat. The playaway I'm listening to is "The Lincoln Lawyer" by Micheal Connelly. I've been listening while I'm tanning as its light weight and easy to carry in your pocket. I'm listening to "Scream for Me" by Karen Rose on my CD-Player! What's On My I-POD – "Cast on", Knit Picks Podcast, Letsknit2gether (Video Podcast, and 11 Episodes of "Sticks and Strings". I hope to get caught up while I'm on vacation. I came across "Letsknit2gether" and I've listen to a few. It's very good. Lots of information on knitting and a good listen. What's On My Night Stand – If finished "Deep in the Heart" by Gilbert Morris now I'm reading book 2 in the Series "Yellow Rose". Weather – Autumn… fall.. rain |

What I’m Doing – Olympics starts tonight! I’ve joined TEAM ALAKA (http://teamalaska.blogspot.com) see link on side bar and Ravelympics. Tomorrow a wedding. And of course Friday Night Knit @ theground.
WIP – I felted my DH slippers. See the pictures I posted. I'm thinking of entrying in the State Fair. Not my first choice ..but a "done project" that hasn't been soiled. Rather plain. Nothing to write home about. Ladies in the guild have been encouraging us enter even the simplist of items. The “Forest Canopy Shawl” is on hold and I’m almost done with the second baby sock. I will cast on the Spiral Socks for the “Olympic Team Alaska". I’m going to try 2 on 2 circulars.
What Audiobooks I’m Listen To - In the car I’m still listening to “Break No Bones” by Kathy Reich read by Barbara Rosenblat. I finished "Silent in the Grave" by Deanna Rayboural. I’m listen to “Lovely Bones”at work, written and read by Alice Sebold. Very heart wrenching. It slowly grows on you. What's On My Night Stand – I finished Dee Henderson’s book “God’s Gift”. Now I’m reading “Deep in the Heart” by Gilbert Morris, a christian writer. I’m really enjoying this light reading about the Texas frontier.
Weather – Chance of a shower or two during the evening, followed by partly cloudy skies overnight. Low 48F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%. High tommorrow near 55F with occasional rain showers. Sunday - Cloudy with showers. High around 55F – 50% chance of rain.

WIP – The “Forest Canopy Shawl” is coming along. I only had to frog one time this week. I finished the baby hat and I’m to the toe of one of the socks. The socks… 2 at a time on 2 circular needles is still slow. I think I’ll make the charity project for the Guild for the “Olympic Team Alaska". I ran off the pattern yesterday. They are more like slippers rather than socks. “Spiral Socks” is the name of the pattern.
What Audiobooks I’m Listen To - In the car I’m listen to “Break No Bones” by Kathy Reich read by Barbara Rosenblat. "Silent in the Grave" by Deanna Rayboural. It’s a 19th Century mystery that takes place in England. Dukes and all that stuff. I’m listen that at work. I’m listening to a playway while I exercise called “Bad Business” by Robert Parker. Read by Joe Mantegna. Good while I’m working out on the bike or at Curves.
What's On My Night Stand – Still reading Dee Henderson’s book “God’s Gift”. It’s good for the hottub. I’m also reading one other but I’ve forgotten the name.. a frontier 1800 – life near the Mississippi river.
Weather – Cloudy intervals. Low near 55F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow: Mainly cloudy. High 62F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph. Sunday: Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. High 59F. Winds light and variable. Chance of showers. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the low 50s - more rain.
Friday, July 18, 2008
WIP – I’m still working on the “Forest Canopy Shawl”. I am almost finished another baby hat for a gift that I started last week. This is a project for in the car. Baby socks next. And then there’s the socks… 2 at a time on 2 circular needles. I’m planning on the afterthought heel. This project is going slow because I’m using the yarn that I dyed last year. It’s pretty wild. I’ll try and post a picture this week.
What Audio Books I’m Listen To – Well several - “Fearless Fourteen” - by Janet Evanovich and “Miracle at Speedy Auto” by Alex McCall Smith. I finished “The Third Angel” by Alice Hoffman 3*, “Sundays at Tiffany’s” by James Patterson, -2*, “SAIL” by James Patterson 4*, “Hold Tight” by Harlen Corben 4*.
